On Sunday, the first episode of the chilling new AMC drama "Humans" premiered on U.S. television. The show is a joint production between AMC in the U.S. and Channel 4 in the U.K., according to an article on TV Guide.

The show is premised on a different version of the present time where androids are made that directly replicate humans, but they are robotic to the core. It does represent a new take on the belief that artificial intelligence can someday over take humanity, but this is different to the effect that they are designed to assist modern families with their domestic and professional lives.

In this world, humans live alongside the synthetic beings, and they serve people in every aspect. They cook, clean and even help people maintain their health by checking blood pressure or other similar preventative steps.

Executive producer for the show Jonathan Brackley spoke with TV Guide about the show.

"We don't want to show this world as a dystopia or a utopia; we want to show the pros and cons of this world," Brackley told TV Guide. "But we are trying to say something about the nature of technology and our relationship to technology and what it's doing to us in both good ways and bad ways. Yes, we have our heads in our iPhones and don't talk to each other, but at the same time we have a device in our pocket that has the entirety of recorded history available to you at the touch of a button, which is a great thing."

Although there are other main characters and dynamics in the show, it seems to focus on the domestic life of the Hawkins family. Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) is a father of three who struggles while his wife is away on business. He decides to purchase an android to help him with the situation. He purchases Anita (Gemma Chan) who is a beautiful android, or "Synth" as the show calls them.

The show also stars William Hurt, Will Tudor and Danny Webb. You can catch up on the series every Sunday and see a preview for the next episode on AMC.
