The Oregonian reports that the unexpected Lifetime hit "UnREAL" is being renewed for a second season.

"UnREAL" has received positive reviews from critics and has become a breakout hit.

The dark comedy seemed like an unlikely fit for Lifetime since the channel is best known for its women-in-jeopardy TV movies and "Dance Moms."

The show takes place on the fake dating competition show Everlasting. The fake show is led by flawed heroine Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby), a young producer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with, and among, the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that the program's dispassionate executive producer, Quinn King (Constance Zimmer), demands.

The show's first three episodes are averaging more than 4.8 million views across available platforms. "UnREAL" is drawing the youngest viewership of any Lifetime scripted series, with a median viewer age of 43.

In a statement, Lifetime's Executive Vice President and Head of Programming Liz Gateley expressed excitement about the renewal.

She stated: "We couldn't be more proud to bring back 'UnREAL.' With authentically flawed characters, sharp storytelling and impeccable performances, this show is propelling our brand in a truly exciting direction -- an unexpected and bolder Lifetime. We are thrilled to continue our work with Marti and Sarah and the incredible A+E Studios team, as we together bring a new generation of viewers to Lifetime."

According to Entertainment Weekly, next season will have 10 episodes. Season 1 has been a roller coaster ride and with only five episodes to go it can only get even better.

Check out "UnREAL" every Monday night at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.
