According to an entry on the website of Sunn Classic Pictures, the studio is slated to remake the famous Stephen King novel "Cujo," which had previously been made into a film in 1983 and garnered critical and box-office success.

The story, as written by horror maestro King, is about a family whose dog Cujo, a Saint Bernard, had been a loving and revered member of the family. But on a hot summer day, the wandering dog chases a rabbit down a hole in the ground, and a swarm of bats are roused.

One of the bats bites the dog and turns the gentle giant into a menacing monster after it was infected with rabies.

The horror plays out in the book with King describing the dog's emotions in an interpretation revealing for humans. The dog thinks, as guided by its instincts, humans are causing all the pain it was experiencing, and it later goes on a mass-killing spree.

The major arc of the story begins when a woman and her young son come out to the remote home with a car about to die in hopes of the master mechanic fixing it when she got there. But everyone was dead when she arrives, and her car dies.

Stuck on the property, the dog traps them in the car for days in the sweltering heat.

The new "C.U.J.O." is expected to take an unusual turn in the story, and the angle will have a military theme, as reported by horror news website Bloody Disgusting.

This new twist in the tale has designated the dog's name as "Canine Unit Joint Operations," or C.U.J.O. It is unclear at this time what direction the new film is going to take and whether or not author Stephen King has given his seal of approval for the project. All that is really known at the moment is that DJ Perry is set to star in the film and Lang Elliott will be directing it.
