With a few months left until the production begins, "Assassin's Creed" continues to add case members. This time Michael K. Williams was cast in an undisclosed role.

The actor, known for "Boardwalk Empire," will play a character that is said to have a major stake in the franchise. Williams is the fourth member to join a cast that already looks to be solid and give the video game adaptation even more hype and prestige.

Williams is joining Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Ariane Labed in the film which is slated to be directed by Justin Kurzel.

The news of Williams' cast comes on the same day that it was announced that the actor would also join "Ghostbusters," which is currently in production and will be directed by Paul Feig and star Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.

Williams is best known for his TV work but he has also starred in a fair amount of films including "Inherent Vice," "12 Years a Slave," "The Road," "Gone Baby Gone," "RoboCop," "Kill the Messenger" and "The Purge: Anarchy."

"Assassin's Creed" is one of the most high-profile video game adaptations due to its talent, and the video game is one of the most popular in the market. There has not been a video game adaptation that has received the amount of press this film is obtaining since "Resident Evil." However, this film is getting extra press due to the fact that Fassbender will produce alongside New Regency and Ubisoft.

The original video game franchise already sold 91 million units and a number of the games have gone on to win major video game awards. Reviews for the series have also remained consistent and mostly positive.

Fox is distributing the upcoming film and production is set to commence in late fall with a release date on Dec. 21, 2016 release.
