Oklahoma Wal-Mart Robbed of $75,000 by Man Dressed as Armored Truck Driver
Oklahoma officials are searching for a man who stole more than $75,000 from a local Wal-Mart while disguised as a security guard over the weekend.
The suspect walked into the Bristow Wal-Mart on Saturday, which is about 35 miles southwest of Tulsa, dressed as a Loomis armored truck employee. He went to the cash office, signed a deposit slip and walked away with the money around 10:30 a.m., Bristow Police said. He then drove off in a dark four-door Chevrolet Malibu with the cash in hand.
"He came to the Walmart kind of dressed like a Loomis armored car driver," said Bristow Police Chief Wayne Williams, according to The Associated Press.
The crime went undetected until the real Loomis security guards showed up to transport the money less than an hour later, police said on Monday. Police were called when the personnel discovered the money was missing, reported Reuters.
Both Oklahoma authorities and agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation are looking into the case and for the suspect. Williams said authorities in northeast Oklahoma have received some anonymous tips about the identity of the man, who can be seen in an image that was captured by a surveillance video.
"We've got some calls out on it, but nothing yet," Williams said. He said officials do not believe the suspect lives in the area.
According to Walmart Stores Inc. spokeswoman Betsy Harden, Wal-Mart stores have been put on alert since the incident but said there has not been any other incidents involving other stores.
"Obviously, it's an ongoing investigation," she added.
Williams said there is no evidence that the suspect either was working or did work as a former employee for an armored transportation service.
"It's not something we suspect. It's a possibility," said Williams.
