Minecraft developers announced a new "Story Mode" at their annual Minecon event in London.

The Bit Bag reports "Minecraft: Story Mode" is in the works and is co-created by acclaimed developer Telltale Games.

Kevin Bruner, president and co-founder of Telltale Games, explained what players can expect in this standalone game.

"Minecraft: Story Mode, a narrative-driven game set in the Minecraft universe, will use the same episodic format and gameplay of Telltale's previous games such as Telltale's The Walking Dead and Tales from the Borderlands," Bruner said. "Players will take control of Jesse in 'a tale of adventure and survival' which spans from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond. Players will get to take control of major decisions that affects the outcome of the story. "

He also went on the state that Telltale Games were the perfect fit for Minecraft. Telltale games are the developers behind hits such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Game Of Thrones. All of these games received rave reviews.

"Minecraft: Story Mode" will be released on an unannounced date in 2015 for Mac, PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, iOS and Android.

In other Minecraft news, Minecraft is being used as an educational tool. According to The Educator, the game can boost student outcomes in schools. On June 30, Minecraft launched education.minecraft.net, which acts as a resource for schools.

The move was a part of Microsoft's Minecraft in Education initiative program. The program was designed to introduce the game into more schools and allows students to get the educational benefits.

The "Minecraft" series was sold to Microsoft last year for $2.4 billion. Over 70 million copies have been sold, including 20 million between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One and 20 million on PC.
