The mobile world is abuzz about the new phablets from Samsung and Motorola.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5, the next in the Galaxy Note series and the direct competitor of the iPhone 6S Plus, is rumored to be announced this August. According to The Wall Street Journal, this is intended to beat the supposed announcement schedule of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, which many believe will be in September.

Even though Samsung has used the Septemer IFA tech trade show in Germany as a launchpad for its Galaxy Note series, it will release the Galaxy Note 5 in August in order to ensure that it will not have to compete for media attention. Upon the release of the previous iteration, the Galaxy Note 4, it was overshadowed by Apple's iPhone 6 Plus.

By moving the release date to August, Samsung hopes to be able to beat Apple to the punch and build up hype for its new device -- before the iPhone 6S comes along to steal the thunder.

While Samsung has kept quiet on details for its upcoming phablet, there have been specifications coming out from the rumor mill. In a specs leak by SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 5 will supposedly come with a octa-core Exynos 7422 processor and S-pen functionality. Various rumors have been suspecting that the screen will either be 2K or 4K. According to Inquisitr, the screen will likely be 5.7 inches.

On the other hand, Motorola has dropped down the price of the current generation Moto X (2nd Gen) to just $299.99 for the 16GB edition, $349.99 for the 32GB edition or $399.99 for the 64GB edition. Motorola's other phone models, the Moto G and Nexus 6, have also received recent promotional price cuts.

Smartphone companies typically have price-cuts to current models when a new model is expected to come out, so it is rumored that this cut is to coincide with the nearing release of the Moto X (3rd Gen.) This is done in order to price-match the original price of the previous model. The Moto X (2nd Gen.) has a 5.2-inch screen and has Snapdragon 801 and Adreno 330 GPU under the hood.

There have also been leaked images of the Moto X Sport, which is likely intended to be an alternative Moto X model for active-lifestyle users, which could entail that a release date for the Moto X 2015 is near.

The Moto X (3rd Gen) us rumored to sport a 5.2-inch Quad-HD screen with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It will pack an 8-core Snapdragon 810 Processor, 32GB of storage, and 4GB of RAM.

Reports suggest that the announcement of the device will be in August to early September, similar to the previous models.
