"Get Rich or Die Tryin" rapper 50 Cent has been ordered to pay a Florida woman $5 million for posting her private sex tape on his website without her consent.

The New York Daily News reports jurors deliberated for just over an hour on Friday before reaching a verdict in the case, which still leaves open the possibility that the "In Da Club" rapper could be forced to pay millions more in punitive damages.

Throughout the proceedings, attorneys for Lastonia Leviston told the Manhattan jury that 50 sought to humiliate her as part of an elaborate scheme to get under the skin of fellow rapper and longtime nemesis Rick Ross, who is the father of one of Leviston's young daughters.

Leviston broke down in tears as the jury announced its verdict, awarding her $2.5 million in damages for the violation of her civil rights by using her image without her permission, and $2.5 million for intentional infliction of emotional distress.

50, born Curtis Jackson, never testified during the trial and was not in the courtroom when the verdict was rendered. The judge also ordered his lawyers to turn over his financial net worth statements and tax return for the last five years to help the jury decide next week how large the punitive damages award should be.

Later, the judge outlined to jurors the amount of punitive damages theoretically can be large enough that it punishes a defendant and hopefully steers them clear "from indulging in similar conduct in the future."

Jackson's net worth is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $150 million to $500 million.

Testimony found 50 doctored the tape in question, superimposing his alter ego "Pimpin Curly" into the video to replace the man Leviston was actually being intimate with. He then added narration to the tape, crudely describing Leviston's body parts and describing her in derogatory terms.

The video went viral in March 2009 after Jackson had promoted it on his website, and it ended up posted on numerous porn sites.

Lawyers for Jackson told the court their client didn't think he needed to get Leviston's permission to use the tape because her then boyfriend, Maurice Murray, told them she was "cool with it."

50 is expected to appeal the verdict.
