This week studios will offer a number of films on DVD from different genres including science fiction, romance, and horror. The films will compete against big current box office blockbusters "Minions," "Jurassic World" and "Inside Out."

"Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2": Sony attempted to relive the box office magic of the original film but failed to capture the same numbers. Starring Kevin James and Raini Rodriguez, this new installment tells the story of Paul Blart who goes on a well-deserved vacation and decides to head to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. However, Blart goes on a mission to maintain safety when danger ensues. Having opened in April, the film made $70 million but was marred by terrible reviews and an overcrowded box office. James fans are likely to embrace the sequel, but the film will likely lose interest quickly.

"The Longest Ride": Based the novel by Nicholas Sparks, the latest romance tells the story of a young couple whose lives intertwine with a much older man, as he reflects back on a past love. The movie was released in April to terrible reviews and lacked the star wattage most of these adaptations usually have. As a result, it underperformed at the box office and underwhelmed with its target audiences. Sparks fans will definitely embrace this movie as well as audiences looking for a romance to make them cry. However, based on the declining popularity in Sparks' films, "The Notebook" is likely to be the preferred choice.

"The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel": Starring Maggie Smith, Richard Gere and Judi Dench, the sequel tells the story of Sonny who pursues his expansionist dream of opening a second hotel. Fox Searchlight took a risk on a sequel to the acclaimed indie film, and while it was not as profitable, the film was still a success. Critically however, it received mixed reviews. Older audiences have shown strength at the cinema as of late, and as a result, this film will likely become a huge success on DVD and VOD. However, don't expect the same awards success the first film had.

"Ex Machina": Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson created the indie success of the year in Alex Garland's directorial debut. The film tells the story of a young programmer who is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I. The film was released by A24 and became the highest feature for the company. Rave reviews and word-of-mouth will definitely help this film have a life after its theatrical run. Additionally, it is likely to become an awards player later this year.

Other releases this week include the Cannes horror film "It Follows," which became the highest grossing film for Radius TWC and was a critical success. The Cesar award winning film "Clouds of Sils Maria," starring Kristen Stewart and Juliette Binoche will also be available. Paramount will release the film for IFC Films.

"Goodbye to All That" will also be released alongside "The Crimson Field."
