FX’s ‘The Bastard Executioner’ From ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Creator Releases First Trailer [Watch]
According to an article on UPROXX, the season premiere of "The Strain" on FX brought more than just the vampire drama's feeding frenzy. It was also were a special promo premiered for the upcoming, highly anticipated release of the new drama from "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter: "The Bastard Executioner."
Fans of "SOA" may seem a little less intrigued that Sutter has taken on a medieval period piece, but just consider what he is most well-known for. Before "Sons," he was the leading writer for the other pioneering series on FX that ushered in the era of the antihero, "The Shield."
Sutter's approach with these shows was a little out of the characteristics inherent to TV dramas at the time, and even still, today.
The antihero is the bad guy that audiences love to hate, or even hate to love. He is the one who does the bad deeds for a more Machiavellian approach -- "the ends justifies the means." He is the one who can do what needs to be done to move forward with an agenda that has been set for the series.
In "The Shield," it was Vic Mackey. He maimed, tortured and killed people to accomplish his goals. Sometimes his agenda was honorable, but other times it was self-serving. The same can be said about Jax Teller in "Sons of Anarchy."
In "The Bastard Executioner," audiences will be pleased to know that this period drama will hold the same true-to-life scenarios where you can expect to see an antihero rise to gain the audience trust and all the while, still be doing things that by most standards would be considered wrong or just downright evil.
The show will feature "True Blood's" Stephen Moyer and Lee Jones in leading roles. Fans of Sutter's shows can expect to be pleasantly surprised that he will be once again be giving you what you didn't know you wanted.
