The trailer to David O. Russell's latest film "Joy" has been released.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Edgar Ramirez, Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper, the latest film tells the story of the woman who rises to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty. The film is based on the life of Joy Mangano, who founded Ingenious Designs.

The trailer looks like a Russell film with top-notch acting, steadicam shots and music of the time period. The movie is looking to be an awards player especially with a Christmas day release. Fox is releasing the movie, but there is no confirmation on whether the film will be ready for the festival circuit or if Russell intends to finish it weeks before the movie.

Both "The Fighter" and "Silver Linings Playbook" opened in the festival circuit, but "American Hustle" skipped it due to post-production. The film was only ready days before the "New York Film Critics" named it the Best film of the year.

Whatever the case may be Russell has become a huge awards player as he has been nominated for his past three efforts, and all three films have also been nominated for Best Picture. He has also given Lawrence two Oscar nominations including one win for "Silver Linings Playbook." Cooper has also been on a role with the director as he has garnered two nominations for his work on "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle."

"Joy" has the right ingredients to be a Best Picture contender especially since it is about a real person and the Academy likes biopic. Its release date will also help it become a box office hit, and Lawrence's superstar status will also elevate buzz.

However, until the film is actually released, it is too early to call it a Best Picture or Oscar candidate. "Joy" also stars Isabella Rossellini, Elisabeth Rohm, Virginia Madsen and Dascha Polanco.
