Rap star DMX has been sentenced to six months in jail for failure to pay child support.

Born Earl Simmons, the 44-year-old rapper is reported to be at least $400,000 in arrears on payments and was taken into custody outside New York City's Radio City Music Hall last month after arriving for a scheduled Master of Ceremony performance where the likes of Shabba Ranks and The Lox were performing.

In all, DMX has a dozen children with several different women and has been sued repeatedly for child support.

The New York Daily News reports he is scheduled to serve his sentence at the Eric County Holding Center. At the time of his arrest, the hip hop star also had several other warrants out for him, including one after he was named as a suspect in a robbery at a Newark, New Jersey gas station on April 5.

DMX was slated to appear at the upcoming Shagfest in Virginia Beach, but this week Shaggfest creator Shaggy took to Twitter to share the news of his incarceration with fans.

The show's producer went on to assure fans that he would find someone to replace DMX and that the show would go on as planned.

In 2013, the rapper filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, claiming that his many child support payments had become too much of a burden. A Manhattan bankruptcy court later dismissed the case and last year several media outlets reported a judge ordered him to pay $15,000 a month from his Universal Music Group wages to ex-wife Tashera Simmons, whom he has four children with.

DMX's history of arrests include charges of animal cruelty, reckless driving, drug possession and probation violations. He had a cup of Hennessy on him when he was taken into custody outside Radio City, but authorities later dismissed the drinking in public charge against him.
