Bryan Singer Developing ‘World War III’ Drama for Spike
Bryan Singer has been a Hollywood filmmaker now for over two decades, and the director has dipped his hands in so many arenas that the genres are starting to run out. Now, he has tackled a TV series that will be aired on cable channel Spike TV titled "World War III," according to Variety.
Singer has directed many films from story creators like Stephen King, Marvel and DC Comics. His strong attention to action sequences has made him quite a draw in Hollywood, helming projects like "Apt Pupil," "X-Men" and the 2006 "Superman Returns." He has been very involved in the "X-Men" franchise and has also directed "Jack the Giant Slayer."
But now, he is about to put his talents to work on TV with a serialized drama about the fictional "World War III."
The premise of this show has been centered around the geo-political scene and how it has influenced a new international conflict that draws on multiple nations that have entered into the skirmish.
The show itself will follow a man in America's heartland, which is now considered occupied territory by an unnamed invader. The man will form a resistance movement to stand up to the occupiers, and the skirmish will take many different directions alongside the global conflict.
What will be interesting about this series is the man himself has a troubling past and leading a resistance might prove to be a challenge that his mind cannot take. It could, of course, follow the influence of how well the "good side" is fairing on the global stage as well.
Spike TV is making a solid push for original scripted series on their cable channel platform. The network has inked deals to air shows like psychological horror series "Bad Medicine," period drama "Hummel & Howe," "Mr. In Between" and "Secret America," which fictionalizes America as an autocratic state set in the near future.
