Watch Tom Cruise Perform Death-Defying Stunt in New ‘Mission Impossible’ Film [Watch]
In what appears to be Tom Cruise latched to the side of an airplane as it takes off and enters airspace, promoters for the new "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" have released the hair-raising video that showed him performing his own stunt, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The stunt was another from the franchise of films that Cruise stars in as Ethan Hunt, the flagship character from the film and TV series.
The films have always featured electrifying scenes in which the character is in extreme danger, hence the title and premise of the franchise.
"Why hang a multimillion dollar star on the outside of an airplane and fly around in the normal world?" stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood said in the video. "But Tom wanted to be on the outside of that plane."
Cruise expressed his total fright going into the scene's stunt and he also showed that he was scared out of his mind during the action as the plane was taking off and the viewer could clearly see that it was quickly gaining altitude.
Make no mistake: These stunts were something that Cruise himself specifically requested to do. It might have been, if nothing else, an effort to go back in time and see the realism in movies that were not so obviously computer generated.
The stunt obviously went down without a hitch, as no one is currently mourning the 53-year-old star's death. Nor was he injured during the stunt's production. This was also not the first time Cruise had performed stunts for the "Mission Impossible" franchise films.
In this stunt, Cruise was tightly harnessed and secured to the edge of an Airbus A400M military cargo plane and, if anything were going to injure him, then it would have been the windburn.
