HipShotDot Red Laser Sight: First Person Shooter USB Targeting Device for Consoles and PCs Improves Accuracy, Speed
Regular players of first person shooters might consider adding this new tool to your arsenal.
The HipShotDot is a very bright red LED attached to a small transparent suction cup, powered by USB via an ultra thin cord. All you have to do to use it is plug the USB into a power source, either the wall or your console, and stick the suction cup over your crosshairs. You can turn on the game and hit the scope then align the red LED over the center of the targeting reticle, effectively giving you a laser sight on the dead center mark. The LED provides a point to easily focus on during battles, enhancing the user's vision of their crosshairs and allowing them to aim faster.
The HipShotDot was invented by Tim Murphy of AirDrop Gaming, a Michigan startup. "With the level of competition increasing every year, we are aiming to improve gamers' performance and overall gaming experience," he said. "Think concepts like controllers designed specifically for the size of your hands and the potential for internal control mechanisms that offer the ultimate precision gaming experience."
A writer for SlashGear called it: "The tiniest and most understated of gaming peripherals SlashGear has happened upon at CES 2014."
One reviewer says, "In my experience with the gadget, it definitely made it easier to focus on the dead-center point when aiming weapons. It works with any console or PC, and any FPS that has a consistent targeting point on screen. I suppose it would also work with air and space combat games as well. It also works with any display with a smooth surface. It definitely works with LCD, Plasma and CRT screens, though I'm not sure how well it would stick to a projection screen."
Apparently it doesn't have a switch to turn it off during cutscenes but it's small enough to not be distracting and the cable is very slim. "The benefits far outweigh the cons if you're really into FPS gaming," said one reviewer, not to mention the LED looks like a laser sight.
