The next generation of smartphones has not been revealed yet, but tech fans are already anticipating the 2014 releases. Of course, it is never too early to think about saving money. As a result, discounts are being offered on highly anticipated unreleased phones like Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy S5.

Yesterday, Best Buy announced that they were offering $50 off smartphone upgrades this year.

"Beginning this coming Sunday and ending Feb. 15, you can simply sign up for a $50 Best Buy gift card that can go toward purchasing and activating your mobile phone at Best Buy any time during 2014," the electronics store said.

Since the deal explicitly states that the deal is available at any point during 2014, this will surely apply to upcoming phones like the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5.

In order to get the deal, interested customers must register their e-mail address and mobile phone number at BestBuy.com. Up to four family plan members are also eligible.

Customers then have until Dec. 31, 2014 to upgrade their registered mobile number with a two-year contract with either AT&T, Sprint or Verizon Wireless at a Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile. Finally, customers can use their $50 gift card toward their new phone.

This is great news for smartphone lovers, who would surely love to save $50 on the hottest smartphones, but when will these devices actually be for sale?

Rumors say that Apple will debut the iPhone 6 at the Worldwide Developer's Conference in June. Based on the company's release patterns, Apple will likely release the phone to the public in the fall, one year after the release of its newest smartphones, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S5 will likely be announced "around March or April," according to Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics Co.'s mobile department.
