WWE Battleground Predictions, Pay Per View Matches, Schedule: Seth Rollins to Defeat Brock Lesnar?
"WWE Battleground" emanates from St. Louis, Missouri, where Randy Orton will definitely get his hometown cheers, but the show is not about him as two matches will overshadow him.
As of Saturday, July 18, five matches have been confirmed for Sunday night's show as the Intercontinental Championship match was pulled off the card. Current champion Ryback has not been medically cleared to defend the title against Big Show and The Miz following a staph infection. The WWE has not announced plans for the Intercontinental Championship, and it is likely Ryback will keep the title as the company rolls into "SummerSlam."
KickOff Show:
King Barrett vs. R-Truth
The rivalry between King Barrett and R-Truth continues and most people are questioning, "Why?" The two WWE Superstars have been battling back and forth and this Sunday's match will determine who will keep Barrett's "King of the Ring" crown.
Prediction:
King Barrett should return to his Bad News Barrett gimmick. R-Truth can continue having fun as king. As a result and to start the St. Louis show on a positive note, R-Truth wins.
Main Show:
WWE Tag Team Championship: The Prime Time Players (Darren Young and Titus O'Neil) (c) vs. The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and/or Xavier Woods):
The rivalry for the WWE Tag Team Championship continues between The Prime Time Players (Darren Young and Titus O'Neil) and The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods). It is unknown which member of The New Day will be in the match, but most likely it will be Big E and Kingston. The two teams have gone back and forth against each other but most times it has been O'Neil and Young victorious.
Prediction:
The feud should continue into "SummerSlam" if the storyline improved. The New Day, however, continues to have heat with the WWE Universe, which could go in their favor to recapture the tag titles. In the end, the prediction is for The New Day to win their second tag team titles, courtesy of interference by Woods.
Randy Orton vs. Sheamus:
The feud follows Sheamus' win at "Money in the Bank," a match Orton lost. Not that he's bitter, but not many people expected Sheamus to win. Orton returned to WWE television a couple weeks ago and firmly set his sights on Sheamus, and the two have been fighting ever since.
Prediction:
The tragedy of the Money in the Bank briefcase holder is that you can lose many matches, and it won't matter because they still hold the briefcase -- this has been the case for Daniel Bryan and Damien Sandow. While the WWE hometown curse could occur -- which the WWE Superstar loses in his or her hometown -- Sheamus won't lose anything from the loss, therefore Orton wins.
Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt:
Wyatt finally has a good storyline, although it isn't perfect, it is with a popular figure: Roman Reigns. Wyatt has mainly led the feud though mind-games, via broadcast video promos, while Reigns has been in the ring. In the final week leading up to "Battleground," Reigns finally got his hand on Wyatt, and that may predict Sunday's outcome.
Prediction:
Wyatt wins. Wyatt needs a win and this feud can continue into "SummerSlam."
United States Championship: John Cena (c) vs. Kevin Owens:
Who's ready for another spectacular match? Kevin Owens has, as expected, impressed everyone with his abilities, which explains why he's already on the main roster after a few months debuting on NXT - meanwhile there are still superstars who have been on NXT for years. "Battleground" will be the third time Owens faced Cena but the difference is the United States Championship is finally on the line.
Prediction:
There is no doubt this feud will continue to "SummerSlam." The question, however, will be how will the match end for the "SummerSlam" match. With Owens losing the NXT Championship to Finn Bálor during the "Beast in the East" special on July 4, Owens will likely increase his odds to win the title, but live House Show events have seen Owens deliver a low blow to Cena for the disqualification. At "Battleground," we could see a disqualification win for Cena's favor.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Brock Lesnar:
The Authority brought back Brock Lesnar to compete against defending WWE World Heavyweight Championship Seth Rollins. The champion has had his team defend him, but Lesnar has basically injured each one of them -- J&J Security and Kane. Rollins finally showed determination to defeat Lesnar during the last "Raw" broadcast," and it could benefit him in terms of momentum.
Prediction:
Rollins wins. The match will be interesting since Rollins and Lesnar have different but unique styles in wrestling matches. The match, however, will be Rollins' major title defense since becoming champion -- and that is not an insult to Dean Ambrose, but Lesnar is a major headlining name.
