The creator of cable's hottest show and comic series "The Walking Dead," Robert Kirkman, has the ending for the series and the comic book in his sights. He spoke at length about it on "WTFPod" with Marc Maron, and there are some details that might be of particular interest to fans of the show.

First of all, forget about everything you think you know about future seasons of the show. The TV series could very well deviate from the path the comic series has laid out for it.

Also, don't expect everyone to just up and die. Tragedies will happen, of course, but there is always going to be a silver lining. There will always be that moment on the planet where "life finds a way."

As Kirkman said on the podcast, as reported by Cinema Blend, it's not exactly what you think.

"I do hope that 'The Walking Dead' goes on long enough that when it ends, they're like, 'Good thing we took care of those zombies.' I see the story from beginning to end, over many, many years, and so I think it's a very hopeful story about humanity overcoming this insurmountable apocalyptic situation. It's just going to take them a long time to do it," Kirkman said.

Following with the comic series, there is enough content to feasibly fill 12 seasons. There is little to no chance AMC will cancel the show, given its powerhouse ratings and extreme popularity in pop culture. The show is all but guaranteed to last as long as Kirkman and showrunner Scott Gimple want it to.

The silver lining is of course the end playing out with the possibility your favorite characters, at least some of them, may end up surviving the zombie apocalypse.

That being said, there is no guarantee the apocalypse will wrap up at any point. There could be a situation where a quarantine eventually phases out the danger. But that is just a hypothetical, in reference to how Kirkman wants it to end in no uncertain terms.
