Apple wants to create a TV remote control that can give a personalized experience for each user based on a fingerprint or retina scan. The device could work across other devices besides TVs, CNET reports.

Apple has applied for a patent that would allow this personalized remote control to be introduced. The objective of the remote is to allow each person in a household to have their own profile based on their fingerprint or retina.

The remote control would be part of Apple's effort to make each user have a unique experience with their devices. This could work with TVs but also with many other devices as well.

Instead of having just one profile for a device, a scan of the fingerprint or retina would allow multiple users to have customized settings based on their choices. It would also allow parents to restrict access to certain channels or websites.

Apple highlighted how this remote could work on a TV, but it would definitely be compatible with computers, tablets, smartphones, wearable devices and even lighting and air conditioning systems.

According to Business Insider, Apple wants to make it much easier to log-in to their services without typing in their user names and passwords. This remote would make it very easy to sign into Apple TV or other Apple services.

A husband and wife may use the same TV but have different preferences. The husband might like the volume a little higher than the wife, and the wife might like the picture a little brighter than the husband. By using the remote control to "log in," their viewing experiences would be catered to them each time. Their favorite channels could also be attached to their profile.

The remote control could help users by providing suggestions on TV programs, websites and other content that they may interested in.

Microsoft's Xbox Kinect already identifies users through a body scan, but Apple's proposed remote could offer a much more personalized experience.
