The New York Yankees put together a 21-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. It was filled with home runs, 19 hits and a five-run, come-from-behind victory. A "win is a win" as they would say, but it's become pretty obvious, the Yankees need more starting pitching help if they're going to win it all this year.

At the moment the Yankees rank second in total runs scored (Blue Jays rank 1st) in MLB with 477 through 99 games. The Yankees also rank second in home runs hit and seventh in team batting average this season. On the flip side, the Yankees rank 20th in team ERA.

That high of a team ERA isn't too surprising. Masahiro Tanaka is pitching on a limited basis and C.C. Sabathia isn't an elite pitcher anymore.

So, what can the Yankees do to improve their starting rotation in a hurry? The Kansas City Royals already stole the biggest pitching asset of all: Johnny Cueto. Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels has been in constant trade rumors, but it doesn't look as if the Yankees will get a hold of him. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the leaders to land Hamels.

According to multiple reports, the Yankees have shown interest in adding Jeff Samardzija this season.

Samardzija has been somewhat of a journeyman lately. In the last two years he has played for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics. Although he isn't having a dominant season this year, Samardzija could be just what the Yankees need. Samardzija leads the American League in games started and batters faced this year, which is crucial because the Yankees need to rest their starters. His ERA has jumped up to a 3.94, but Samardzija's strikeout to walk ratio is still great.

Samardzija is in the final year of his contract with the White Sox. Next season he will be an unrestricted free agent, so it may be wise for the White Sox to unload him now and get value.

The Toronto Blue Jays, who also need pitching help, have shown interest in Samardzija. If the Yankees allow their division rival to get Samardzija, they could be in danger of giving up their division lead. The New York Post recently reported that numerous MLB executives believe the Yankees will land a big name pitcher before Friday's deadline, possibly Samardzija.

Clay Buchholz, who has three years left on his contract, had been in trade rumors with the Yankees. However, the Boston Red Sox just placed him on the 60-day disabled list. David Price has also been in trade rumors, but the odds of him landing in Pinstripes are slim.

Mike Leake could be a possibility as the Cincinnati Reds are in complete rebuilding mode. Leake is in the final year of his contract, so it wouldn't be surprising at all if the Reds trade him away. The Yankees (like the Royals) would be great trade partners for the Reds because they play in separate leagues and obviously wouldn't have to compete against each other very often.

Leake obviously isn't an ace pitcher or the next Whitey Ford, but it is worth noting that he currently has a better record and ERA than Michael Pineda. Adding Leake would be a fantastic move for the Yankees because he is very young, he's a consistent pitcher, and he won't come at a high price.

The MLB trade deadline is Friday, July 31 at 4 p.m. ET.
