It looks like a blast from the past each and every time the President of the United States pulls out his seemingly outdated BlackBerry.

It turns out this is all for a reason.

President Barack Obama has been using a BlackBerry during his two terms in office and this has understandably generated plenty of buzz considering the fact that BlackBerry has taken a backseat to many other mobile phone options in recent years.

The reason behind the president's lack of an iPhone is all based on security, according to the man himself.

The problem with iPhones is that there are additional and more complex security features and it was ultimately too much.

"There is a reason why BlackBerrys and iPhones aren't allowed in the White House situation room," Obama said.

The president has also opened up a bit regarding the way he feels about the overreaching power of these companies and elaborated upon just how invasive they can be.

"Corporations of all shapes and sizes track what you buy, store and analyze our data, and use it for commercial purposes," the president said, according to pnj.com. "That's how those targeted ads pop up on your computer and your smartphone periodically."

According to Slate, BlackBerry is unique in that it possesses special security features that allow less than a dozen people to have access to the president's e-mail. Additional details and reasons for the president's use of a BlackBerry over other products are not clear, but it clearly has to do with security.

What do you think about the fact that the president is unable to use an iPhone? Are the companies invading our personal lives too much? How do you think future presidents will be able to use their phones? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
