‘Batman v Superman’ News: Batman Older, Wiser, Broken and Will Be Viewed as Film’s Villain
In the 2016 film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," Batman will be the older and wiser superhero of the bunch, as confirmed by Zack Snyder in an interview with Empire Magazine., reported via Collider.
In the new film, Batman will be older, maybe "45 or 46," and the arrival of Superman is what throws of his credo for the film.
In the trailer for the film, fans got a glimpse of Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), who appeared to be on the ground during Superman's fight with General Zod in the film "Man of Steel." It seemed as though the destruction the two caused during their battle wreaked havoc on ordinary citizens and Wayne was on the ground when it happened.
In the trailer, Wayne ran into the cloud of dust after a building had fallen over and appeared to save a young boy. He then looked up at the sky with anger on his face.
In the film next year, it appears as though Batman will be rising up as a force against Superman and the two will battle it out. But according to Snyder, Superman will be the new kid on the block and Batman will have two decades of heroic experience over the Man of Steel.
"We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change," Snyder told Empire. "He is a paradigm shift for Batman: 'I've been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.' In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn't matter."
Snyder also said that Batman could be viewed as the villain in this movie, but it all depends on the perspective used to judge that criteria. Fans will have to immerse themselves in two different points of view in order to make that judgment for themselves. But he did also point out that the universe will be a growing concept.
"What we are doing is ground up all the way. It is one giant story. The first thing we had was the Justice League concept. The other movies, in a way, have to support that," Snyder said.
