'Assassin's Creed Syndicate' Gameplay & News: Upcoming 'AC' Video Game To Bring Back 'Modern Era' Mode
As the release date for the new "Assassin's Creed Syndicate" title draws near, Ubisoft continues to release more information about the newest offering in the popular historical video game franchise.
The company has recently revealed in an interview that the "present-day story" mode will finally return to the upcoming title.
Creative Director Marc-Alexis Cote sat down with Game Spot for an exclusive interview where he revealed the plans and direction for the "Assassin's Creed" story. During the chat, Cote announced that the "modern era" mode will be back to the game.
Ubisoft's creative director did not offer much about the upcoming "present-day story" for the game except that it will finally reveal to players the real reason behind the conflict between the two warring factions in the franchise.
"I can't go into details about the present-day story, other than to say it is coming back," said Cote. "It is going to make sense for our players, and they're going to understand the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars."
He added that it was vital for the "modern era" mode player to feel involved in the game.
"One of the things that's been super important for me and for the team is to make sure the player feels in the present-day story that he or she has importance," added the Ubisoft chief. "That what they're doing is helping the assassins in their war against the Templars. That they're not just sourcing data for someone."
Cote and Level Design Director Hugo Giard also said that the upcoming title is the beginning of a new cycle for the overarching story of the franchise.
"'Assassin's Creed 3' was the end of the Desmond cycle. And then we started up the new cycle, which I think will become much clearer with 'Assassin's Creed Syndicate,' without spoiling it," explained Cote.
Both "Assassin's Creed 5: Black Flag" and "Assassin's Creed Unity" were titles to fill the gap for the transition period from the Desmond cycle to the new one.
Meanwhile, the representatives from Ubisoft have maintained that they are doing their best to prevent the same problems that many players encountered with "Assassin's Creed Unity."
Cote stated that they took some ideas from the previous title and overhauled them and it was with this work that they were able to show a playable demo at the recent E3 event. The creative director added that it was a first for the franchise to take feedback from actual players and consider their comments to develop the title further.
More details about the new "present-day" mode are expected to be revealed soon.
"Assassin's Creed Syndicate" will be available to latest generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft starting October 23. A PC version will be released at a later time.
