Fans of "Final Fantasy 7" are in for some new things with the upcoming remake. The video game's director, Tetsuya Nomura, revealed that the remake of the popular title from the series will usher in "dramatic changes" to the way battles and combats are done.

The Japanese video game designer had a chat with the Official PlayStation Magazine and during the interview, he provided hints of what fans can expect in the next game while assuring fans that it will remain the same as the cult favorite.

"We're not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that. We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it's still recognizable," said the director, as quoted by Games Radar.

Nomura also teased that the movie he directed in 2005, "Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children," can offer some clues as to what fans will be seeing in the game. References and other images from the film might have been considered as an inspiration for the remake.

More 'Final Fantasy: Remake 7' updates

In June, the Square Enix director already admitted that the planned remake will feature more than just another "Final Fantasy" with nicer visuals.

"In terms of taking a such an iconic game and giving it a fresh feel, we can't go into too much detail but we're not intending for this to be become a one-to-one remake, or just the original Final Fantasy VII with better graphics," he told Wired.

He assured fans that the developers will not touch anything that many have "big attachments to." Instead, a reinvention will be made to the favorite.

"My goal with the remake is to make it apply to the current era, the current generation of players that are going to be coming into contact with or playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time through this remake," said Nomura.

Square Enix offered a peek of the game at Sony's press conference in the recent E3 event and the game is slated to arrive to the PS4 first before other platforms. The title's release date is yet to be announced.
