Dr. Dre collaborator Ice Cube let it slip during a July 29 interview on Philadelphia's Power 99's "The Rise & Grind Morning Show" that Dre's "Compton: A Soundtrack" drops on Aug. 7. The album was inspired by the highly anticipated N.W.A. movie "Straight Outta Compton."

The "Drop Girl" rapper confirmed to radio show host DJ Mikey Dredd that the soundtrack would include new N.W.A. music.

"It's mega, it's Dr. Dre, it's what everybody's been waiting for," Ice Cube revealed. "It's definitely a dope record, and he's dropping it all on the same day."

Rumors have circulated about a N.W.A. reunion tour. "It's definitely, definitely possible," Cube said.

Dre also confirmed the album release on his Beats 1 radio show "The Pharmacy" on Saturday, saying that the album will be released exclusively on iTunes' Apple Music.

The Compton-inspired album comes in the wake of "Detox," Dre's follow-up to 1999's "The Chronic 2001." He released singles "Kush" and "I Need a Doctor," and he even hinted at a February 2011 release, but nothing happened. Dre told fans on his radio show that he has scrapped "Detox" because he was not happy with it.

"I didn't like it. It wasn't good. The record, it just wasn't good... I worked my ass off on it, and I don't think I did a good enough job," he said.
