America Ferrera recently served as a judge for "The Next MacGyver" competition and hopes this will inspire women to pursue careers in fields like engineering.

The actress, who is most popular for her role of Betty Suarez in the ABC television series "Ugly Betty," said that she hopes young women will take on the challenge and help represent women in empowering ways.

"Part of why [executive Gabrielle Neimand and I] do what we do is to create strong female characters and to create content that represents women in as many diverse and compelling and strengthening ways," Ferrera told Fox News Latino. "There's a lot out there that hasn't been represented in television, and it's always exciting to do something that's never been done before."

Since "Ugly Betty" Ferrera has appeared in "Cesar Chavez," "End of Watch" and voiced Astrid in the award-winning "How To Train Your Dragon" films. However the actress also makes time for charity. Most recently attending the Clinton Global Initiative University in March.

The Latina also launched her own production company called "Take Fountain Productions" in 2008. The company supports a variety of projects, such as films, television shows and educational products.

Ferrera made headlines when she thanked Donald Trump for his comments about Mexican immigrants. The actress, according to CBS News, wrote a letter thanking the presidential candidate for his comments because they will send a lot more Latinos to the polls.

"You see, what you just did with your straight talk was send more Latino voters to the polls than several registration rallies combined," she said. "Remarks like yours will serve brilliantly to energize Latino voters and increase turnout on election day against you and any other candidate who runs on a platform of hateful rhetoric."

Up next for the 31-year-old actress is the third film in "The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants" series, which is in early production stages.

"There's not really much to say about it other than, you know, it's in the works and these things take time and we'll see," said Ferrera about the upcoming film.

Ferrera stars in the film series with Gossip Girl alum Blake Lively, actress Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel from "Mad Men" and "Gilmore Girls."
