UFC News & Notes: Bethe Correia Vows To Become a Champion in 2016, Eyeing Rematch With Ronda Rousey
Bethe Correia took a devastating loss to Ultimate Fighting Championship women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 190 on Saturday, but the Brazilian mixed martial artist vowed to return stronger.
Correia, who only lasted 34 seconds against Rousey during their title fight in Rio de Janeiro, told Combate that she will work harder as she is determined to get another title shot next year.
The 28-year-old bantamweight contender vowed to earn the respect of MMA fans again following her loss to Rousey, promising that she will become a champion next year.
"In 2016, I want to write a different story," Correia said as translated by Bloody Elbow. "I want, above all things, to be respected. I want a triumphant return. I won't accept ending 2016 without an UFC belt on my waist. Everything I want, I get. That will be my battle."
While Rousey dominated her on Saturday night, Correia said that it will be an additional motivation for her if Rousey is still the champion when she gets another crack at the title. She said she is looking forward to a rematch with the unbeaten champion, and she is confident Rousey will be dethroned.
"If she still has the belt next year, I will meet her again," Correia said of Rousey. "I will get that belt. I think Ronda will be dethroned and I hope I get to do it. Everybody loses at one point."
But before Correia gets a rematch against Rousey, she has to win in her next fights and hope that 'Rowdy' will also emerge victorious in her next title defense, which will likely be against Miesha Tate.
Recent reports indicated that Rousey and Tate could face each other for the third time as a co-main event fight at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium on Dec. 5 alongside the proposed showdown between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and top 145-pound contender Conor McGregor.
Tate, who lost in her first two tries against Rousey, is hoping the fight will be finalized soon. She added that fighting in a huge card will motivate her to show she can defeat Rousey, who holds an unblemished 12-0 record.
"I think that would be great," Tate said of her possible rematch with Rousey via Yahoo Sports. "I think that would be one of the biggest pay-per-views ever in history, if not blowing all the other ones out of the water. And if I get to fight Ronda on an amazing card like that, it'll make it that much sweeter when I go out there and take the title."
