Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is a free man after nine months on probation for being accused of abusing his 4-year-old son.

ESPN reports that a judge in Texas agreed to terminate Peterson's probation after nine months. According to Peterson's lawyer, Rusty Hardin, the judge concluded Peterson fulfilled the requirements of his probation. Originally, Peterson was sentenced to two years probation last November.

Peterson, who pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor reckless assault charge of his 4-year-old son, won't have to report to his parole officer anymore. Peterson was also sentenced to 80 hours of community service and a $4,000 fine. The termination order was signed by both parties last week.

Not all people are happy Peterson's probation was terminated early. According to KHOU TV in Houston, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said he plans to file an appeal on the decision, saying Peterson did not meet the requirements of his probation.

Peterson was suspended for 16 games of the 2014 season for the incident but is back with the Vikings this season. Rumors were swirling the Vikings were going to release him after the incident but the team is standing by their star player.

There was even talk that the Dallas Cowboys wanted to trade or sign the star running back, but it was shot down earlier this offseason.

Peterson is considered to be one of the best running backs in the game today. Since being drafted by the Vikings in the 2007 NFL Draft, Peterson put up monster numbers for the team. In his career, he has accumulated over 10,000 yards rushing and scored 86 touchdowns. He also has been fantasy football's favorite running back to draft during his career.

He is expected to be the starting running back in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers.
