50 Cent Bankruptcy News: 'In Da Club' Rapper Suffers Memory Loss During Court Hearing
Hip-hop star 50 Cent barely could remember who he was during a bankruptcy court hearing in Connecticut this week where a Justice Department attorney sought to question him about his finances.
For starters, 50 claimed he had come to the New Haven courtroom without any identification with his social security number on it. And that proved to be as forthcoming as the "In Da Club" rapper would be.
According to the New York Daily News, 50, born Curtis Jackson, then proceeded to give confusing answers to the simplest of questions. Throughout his testimony, 50 repeatedly turned to his team of high-powered attorneys and his accountant for answers.
The 40-year-old rap star was ordered to appear before the court and submit to questioning about his finances after recently filing for bankruptcy. The move came just as a Manhattan jury was about to deliberate punitive damages against him in a case where a Florida woman was awarded a $7 million judgement after he put her private sex tape on the web without permission.
Lawyers for Lastonia Leviston told the court Jackson did so as a way of getting under the skin of rival rapper Rick Ross, with whom she has a young daughter.
On Wednesday, 50's lawyers told the court in order to pay off the judgement and another one for $17 million to Sleek Audio, the rapper had sold off his entire catalog to Kobalt Music Group for $6 million. Attorneys later added the first $3 million of that payment had been used for ordinary living expenses, to which the rapper quipped, "I don't remember having lots of money."
TMZ now reports Jackson is seeking to rent out his Connecticut estate, which has 21 bedrooms, nine kitchens and a casino. It's unknown how much 50 is offering the place up for, but he recently disclosed he's been paying $72,000 a month on it for maintenance.
Reportedly, Mike Tyson once owned the property but went bankrupt while living there.
