Colin Farrell has joined the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff "Fantastic Beasts."
Farrell will join Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol in the upcoming film, set to start production in the fall.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Farrell will play Graves, a wizard that Newt Scamander (Redmayne) meets in New York.
Newt is the lead character in the film, and the story is supposed to center on his character and his adventures in the secret community of witches and wizards.
Farrell won a Golden Globe for his work on "In Bruges" and is currently starring on HBO's second season of "True Detective." He was recently seen in the latest Yorgos Lanthimos film "The Lobster," which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film went on to win the Jury Prize at the festival and immediately obtained U.S. distribution. He has also been seen in "Saving Mr. Banks," "Horrible Bosses," Total Recall," "Alexander" and "Fright Night." The actor will next be seen in "Solace."
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is expected to be directed by David Yates, who helmed the last four "Harry Potter films." J.K. Rowling, who created the Harry Potter world, will make her screenwriting debut.
"Harry Potter" producer David Heyman is back as producer and will be accompanied by Rowling, Steve Kloves, who wrote seven out of the eight Potter movies, and Lionel Wigram. Warner Bros. has already promised to continue to make Harry Potter films yearly and hopes to be as successful as the original eight films.
The eight films comprise the most profitable film franchise of all time bringing in billions of dollars. The franchise was also successful as a critical darling.
"Fantastic Beasts" is set for release on Nov. 18, 2016.
