The Los Angeles Dodgers are leading the National League West and have the playoffs in their sights. Their payroll, however, is a different story.

According to Yahoo, the Dodgers owe $87.5 million dollars to players who are not on the team anymore. Molly Knight, the author of "The Best Team Money Can Buy, The Los Angeles Dodgers' Wild Struggle to Build a Baseball Powerhouse," breaks down what players the Dodgers currently owe:

The most eye opening number? The $87.5 million that the Dodgers owe is more than the payrolls of the Rays, Marlins, Astros, A's and Indians. Former Dodgers pitcher Brain Wilson is owed $10 million alone.

Perhaps the biggest number on this list is the $30 million the Dodgers owe to pitcher Hector Olivera. In March, the Dodgers signed Olivera to a six-year $62.5 million dollar deal with a $28 million dollar signing bonus. On July 30, he was involved in a three team trade with the Marlins and Braves in a 13-player trade. The Dodgers will pay Olivera $1,267,760 and the entire $28 million signing bonus.

Also included in the trade is Bronson Arroyo, who will not pitch this season. He is also included in the $26 million owed to Dodgers pitchers who are not on the team.

The goal of the Dodgers this season is to win a World Series championship, and spending an absurd amount of money on players and then trading them is an unorthodox way of improving the team.

They are already on their way towards a second straight National League West crown. If they keep this up, they won't be able to sign the big name players coming this offseason.
