Jon Stewart Signs Off From ‘The Daily Show’ [Watch]
The finale was emotional, but it was still filled with the wit and satire that have become staples for Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" now for over 16 years.
Stewart brought the incredibly comical group of former correspondents to his final show to do the renowned post-debate coverage of Fox News' Republican presidential debate. But the episode was more about a reflection of Stewart's career over the years, which the gathered crew mocked in character.
Former correspondent Samantha Bee, among others, showed up to "cover" the various candidates in the debate, but the comedy segued into other topics that poked fun at the events over the years on "The Daily Show."
In the second segment, Stewart's enemies, including his sparring partners Bill O'Reilly and Sen. John McCain, got a chance to tee off on the late night host with pretaped statements. They gave him a tasteful send-off. Even Hillary Clinton and John Kerry got in on it, just before John Oliver joined Stewart on set.
Then Stewart got a visit from his old friend Stephen Colbert. At first Colbert was back in full character to give Stewart a proper send-off. Colbert was full of over the top comedy, which he started off by calling himself "Sam" to Stewart's "Frodo."
But when Stewart tried to send them to commercial, Colbert stopped the break. He switched out of character and made Stewart sit down for the official "thank you" that Stewart tried to avoid. Stewart even tried to roll his chair away, but Colbert stopped him.
After Colbert finished his final goodbye to Stewart, Colbert sent it to commercial as the whole team of former correspondent came out and hugged Stewart, doing a mock huddle with everyone jumping like they just won a major championship.
