Transfer Rumors: Sergio Ramos To Manchester United Still Possible?
Manchester United are still interested in acquiring Sergio Ramos, and reports revealed the Red Devils still have a chance to get the star defender.
According to ESPN FC, multiple reports in Spain indicated that Ramos and Real Madrid are not talking about a new contract, with some reports also suggesting that no contract signing is imminent at this point.
Sources indicated that Ramos is looking for an extension, which will give him €10 million a year, but Real Madrid's offer is just €8.5 million annually.
And because of the uncertainty about Ramos' future at the Bernabeu, there is a chance Manchester United will revisit talks with Real Madrid about a possible transfer deal.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is determined to add another defender to their roster in the hope of improving their chances of winning the English Premier League title this season.
The Red Devils are set to open their campaign on Saturday against the Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. Their defensive line will have to make adjustments, as reports confirmed top goalkeeper David De Gea will not play in their season opener against the Hotspur.
Van Gaal revealed that De Gea is not mentally prepared to man the goal for Manchester United on Saturday because he was affected by the continuous rumors linking him to a move to Real Madrid during the offseason.
"We've observed and seen him in training sessions and matches and he's not the David De Gea of last year," the Manchester United boss said. "He tries and does utmost best, but it's a difficult situation. Now we have to play our first match and I want players who can focus only on the match and he is not capable to do that."
De Gea's contract will end after the upcoming season, and reports also revealed that the Spain international has turned down a contract extension. Van Gaal insisted that the club does not want to give De Gea up, but he knows the ball is out of their hands.
"He's the best goalkeeper we've had the last three years I believe," he said. "The last two years he was nominated by the fans as the best player at the club. Do you think the coach wants him to leave? I don't think so. The player still has to manage this situation."
