'Real Housewives of New Jersey,' Teresa Giudice News Update: Reality Star's Malpractice Suit Could Lead to More Jail Time?
Teresa Giudice's attempt to clear her good name could backfire on her and lead the "Real Housewife of New Jersey" star to serving even more prison time.
Currently serving out the remainder of her 15-month sentence after pleading guilty to bank fraud-related charges, the 43-year-old Giudice recently sued attorney James Kridel charging he made several "missteps" and was negligent in handling her defense.
OK magazine reports not only does Kridel seem unfazed by her actions, he hints that before all is said and done, Giudice's efforts may result in her getting an even stiffer sentence than the one he was able to finesse for her.
"She may not like the line of questioning," he said, adding that it may lead to her incriminating herself even further. He later added, "She didn't file taxes for 10 years. How can that possibly be my fault?"
Just the same, ET reports malpractice attorney Carlos Cuevas filed suit in Morris County, New Jersey on Giudice's behalf last month, arguing that Kridel "is the reason" his new client is now behind bars. More specifically, the suit charges Kridel with legal malpractice, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty.
People magazine also reports Giudice is seeking to recover an unspecified amount of money from Kridel, charging that she has suffered huge financial damages stemming from his negligence.
Kridel also represented Teresa Giudice's husband Joe in the 2009 proceedings and he was sentenced to 41 months in prison on similar charges. He is slated to begin serving his sentence once his wife has been released.
"She went to jail because she committed crimes, which were not participated in by me," Kridel said of Teresa Guidice. "She had about 2.5 hours of testimony before she went to jail where she took full responsibility for the crimes."
Cuevas countered by arguing Kridel's handling of the case proved so grossly inadequate, Teresa Giudice had no choice but to plead guilty to the bankruptcy fraud charges that have already forced her to spend nearly the last year away from her four young daughters.
