'Person of Interest' Series To End After Season 5?
When CBS' "Person of Interest" series came out in 2011, it provided a different take on how technology and crime can be perpetuated that it soon became a hit among TV programs that offer the usual investigative plots. Four seasons later, it seems that the promise of the program will soon be cut short as rumors that the upcoming season five will be its last.
Reports that season five will finally bring to close the story of John Reese and Harold Finch were sparked by the news that only 13 episodes were ordered for the next season as opposed to the usual 22-23 number, noted IGN.
However, CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler denied that the fifth season will only be for 13 episodes. According to the studio chief, no final number has been set yet.
"We haven't determined that yet," Tassler told the audience at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour. "That show's in production now and will be coming on later this season, but we haven't determined if it's the end of the series yet."
It seems unlikely that a network chief, production, cast and crew members would not be privy to any information that a series is on for its last season. In fact, Tassler seemed sure that the production team of the show will be given ample time to wrap up the storyline should the network decide that "Person of Interest" will no longer be renewed.
Tassler revealed that the network currently do not have an idea what the last storyline for the series will be, which gives fans hope that the series' time is not up yet on the television screen.
"We're not anywhere near having to determine what the last storyline will be," added the network executive. 'But we'll talk about it when we get there."
The show's executive producer, Jonathan Nolan, already revealed that they plan to end the series after 13 episodes.
"We're going to make 13 kickass episodes, and drop the microphone," Nolan said at the "Person of Interest" Comic-Con panel in July.
He stated that part of the reason they plan to do 13 great episodes is because of the uncertainty whether the program will be renewed for another season.
"I can't predict down the road but we've very proud of the show and if it's the last season, no one is going to be disappointed with the story we tell."
"Person of Interest" Season 5 will start airing in fall 2015.
