New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be out 6 to 10 weeks with a broken jaw after an altercation with a teammate earlier today.

According to ESPN, the Jets quarterback was involved in a locker room altercation with reserve linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali. As a result of the fight, Smith suffered two fractures in his jaw and will require surgery, which will sideline him for 6 to 10 weeks. Reports state that Enemkpali sucker punched Smith.

Mike Garafolo, insider for Fox Sports 1, tweeted that this altercation started when Smith put his fingers on Enemkpali's face:

New Jets coach Todd Bowles addressed the issue, stating, "It was something very childish, something sixth-graders could've talked about, It had no reason to happen. If they want to tell you what happened, they can tell you what happened. I told them I wouldn't say anything about it."

Enemkpali was released from the team, according to Bowles.

Just an hour after the incident, Smith posted a photo on Instagram with the caption "I'll Be Back." Check it out below:

According to Bleacher Report, Jets second string quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is projected to be the team's starting quarterback. Fitzpatrick was acquired from the Texans in the off-season. The team also drafted quarterback Bryce Petty in this year's draft. Petty has been struggling in camp.

Smith was doing well in training camp, having not thrown an interception until yesterday and he hasn't had a really good career with the Jets so far. In his two seasons with the team, the quarterback accumulated 5,571 yards with 25 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions.

Smith will miss the first four games of the regular season.
