'The Notebook' TV Series In Development at CW Network
Fans of the Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling starrer, "The Notebook," might soon have something to look forward to on the small screen. Word is out that a TV adaptation of the movie based from Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel is in development at The CW network.
According to a report from the Entertainment Weekly, the series will be based on the novel and movie and will have a period feel to it.
The pitch for the series stated that the TV version will "follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship" with the setting in the late 1940s North Carolina after the events of the Second World War.
Aside from the love story between the two lead characters, the series is set to explore the issues surrounding the culture during that time, which touched on "racial politics, economic inequities and social mores."
Given the timeframe of the movie, which will see a younger Noah and Allie, it is likely that the elder couple that brought tears to many in the film and book, will not be seen in the series.
In both the novel and movie, the elderly Allie and Noah are both in a hospice. Allie was stricken with Alzheimer's but Noah remains committed to their love and would read her their story daily until she remembers him.
"I don't believe we're going to see the older couple - what they become," The CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "But things change and we're just now in the development stage."
The upcoming project is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Television and Nicholas Sparks Productions with the author as the executive producer along with Theresa Park.
Todd Graff is set to write the screenplay for the series.
While it is already in the early development stages, it's not yet guaranteed if the project will be picked up.
Should the series be shown, then it will join the numerous list of movies-turned-TV-adaptations that have sprouted in the last months.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS is working on a series based on the movies "Rush Hour" and "Limitless" while Fox will do a TV adaptation of "Minority Report."
