Wednesday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here.

The grand prize is currently at $60 million, with a cash value of $38.7 million. Last Saturday’s winning numbers were 9, 34, 48, 52, 54 and 15. There were 369,368 regular winners and $4,058,468 in non jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Though the odds will likely change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.

So the odds of winning are slim, but people do win. The main thing a Powerball player has to do, outside of checking the numbers, is hold on to the ticket.

People that love a good rags to riches story were thrilled to learn that Marie Holmes, a 26-year-old single mother of four, had won the $188 million Powerball prize last February. The young woman from North Carolina elected to accept her winnings in one lump sum, which left her with the still sizable award of $127 million. Well, after taxes, around $88 million.

The main thing was that now life should have been much easier for her. But, as it turns out, a lot of that money has been going to pay off bonds for her and her boyfriend.

A little after she won Holmes posted $3 million bond for her boyfriend Lamarr McDow who was in jail facing heroin trafficking charges. Then last month when the cops came to her home to arrest McDow for parole violations, the officers found that McDow had a .45 caliber pistol along with drug paraphernalia.

So, as reported by Madame Noire, Holmes and McDow were both arrested. After getting herself out of jail, Holmes spent an additional $6 million to get McDow free once again.

Whatever anybody wants to say about it, Holmes can surely afford the price of freedom.
