‘The X-Files’ News: Another Original Star Returning
Although she was not a regular in the series until the ninth and final season of "The X-Files," agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) will be making an appearance on the revival show set to premiere next year on Fox.
The actress confirmed her return to the much anticipated sci-fi series through Instagram as well as Twitter, retweeting various articles reporting on the news. She finally uploaded a photo and wrote, "Back to #xfiles we go! #monicareyes."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, her character started a recurring role on Season 8, but then she was bumped up to a series regular in Season 9. The final season was when her character was last seen, when agents Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny) needed to go on the run.
Reyes helped them in their plight and that was when she last appeared on the series. In total, she appeared in 23 episodes and also played opposite agent Doggett (Robert Patrick), who also came to the series in the late run.
There has been no word yet as to whether Patrick will be returning for the revival series event. But many other original stars have signed onto the project.
That list includes Anderson, Duchovny, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis. Fans will also get their lovable "Lone Gunmen" back in the show, although it has not been disclosed what capacity they will play their roles in.
Newcomers to the series include Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Joel McHale, Annet Mahendru, Rhys Darby and Kumail Nanjiani.
Gish has many credits to her name since the show ended, which includes "Sons of Anarchy," "Brotherhood," "West Wing" and 'The Bridge."
Duchovny has also had a full slate since the show ended, starring in the hit Showtime series "Caifornication" and the new NBC Charles Manson thriller "Aquarius." His film credits includes two "X-Files" spinoffs and "Things We Lost in the Fire."
Anderson has also been busy with her role in the TV series "Hannibal" and "The Fall."
"The X-Files" is slated to debut on Fox this coming winter on Jan. 24, 2016.
