Following the success of Warner Bros.' "The LEGO Movie," the studio is coming out with a spin-off featuring DC Comics' Caped Crusader and has finally found the actor who could lend his voice to the upcoming animated film's villain.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis is in talks to be the voice behind one of Batman's famed enemies, The Joker, in "The Lego Batman Movie." Negotiations are still in the final stages and it remains to be seen if both sides will be able to seal the deal.

Galifianakis, known for his role as the "childish" Alan Garner in "The Hangover" movies, recently finished work on the movie, "Masterminds." However, the film is currently on hold as Relativity, the studio that made the movie, is undergoing financial problems and has already filed for bankruptcy.

He is no stranger to animated films as the actor has been part of the cast of "The Simpsons," "Bob's Burgers" and "Puss In Boots," noted Screen Rant.

Galifianakis was reportedly considered for the role because Warner Bros. studio wants The Joker in the movie to "be a little more crazy and funny than how the character has been shown in the past."

If the 45-year-old former stand-up comedian gets the part, it will be the first time that an actual funnyman will give life to the role of the super villain. He will join Will Arnett, who will be the voice of Batman, and Michael Cera, who will be the man behind the Caped Crusader's sidekick, Robin.

In the LEGO video games, Christopher Smith voiced The Joker in "LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes" as well as "LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham." Meanwhile, Steve Blum lent his voice to be The Joker in the 2008-released "LEGO Batman: The Videogame."

Sethe Graham-Smith wrote the screenplay for the animated movie, which will be directed by Chris McKay. The director was part of "The LEGO Movie" as an animation supervisor.

Christopher Miller, Dan Lin, Phil Lord and Roy Lee are on board the project as producers.

"The Lego Batman Movie" is set for release in February 2017, followed by "Ninjago" in September of the same year.

The sequel to "The LEGO Movie," on the other hand, is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2018.
