There is a new world order in the upcoming USA drama "Colony." The people of Los Angeles believe so, at least. The show is about the city after an alien invasion that has put up 300-foot walls around the California city so that people cannot escape.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has a lot in common with AMC's "The Walking Dead," just in a more parallel way. It is about aliens that have come in and taken over society, but the show starts when the alien invasion has already happened.

This of course parallels "TWD" because there is no explanation as to what happened to cause this. There is no way for fans to know how the world ended. But in the world of "Colony," the world hasn't technically ended, but rather experienced a regime change.

The people of Los Angeles are forced to comply with new way of life, which includes cooperating with the intelligent beings that now control them. Although the notion of complete colonization and total subjugation is nothing new to the world, it has never happened through an alien invasion.

The show stars former "TWD" alum Sarah Wayne Callies as Katie Bowman and Josh Holloway ("Lost") as her husband Will Bowman. Their family of five must contend with the new rules that have been laid out for them within the walls of LA, and they do not even know if the rest of the world has been afflicted by the alien intruders.

Will is a former FBI agent and he is forced to work in tandem with the alien oppressors in order to find his son, who went missing during the invasion. He is tasked with hunting down and disbanding resistance fighters.

The show itself will not find aliens to be the biggest threat but rather humans as they help themselves by doing the bidding of an alien government as a way to stay alive.

"Colony" premieres on USA network on Jan. 14, 2016.
