UFC Fight Rumors: Ronda Rousey is Afraid of Cris Justino, Says Tito Ortiz
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar Tito Ortiz believes Ronda "Rowdy" Rousey is afraid of Cris "Cyborg" Justino, who is continuously being linked to a showdown with the UFC women's bantamweight champion.
Ortiz claimed during an interview with Inside MMA that Cyborg received an offer to face Rousey in a fight that will be promoted by UFC at 135 pounds
However, UFC president Dana White quickly shut down talks about the ongoing negotiations for the showdown. White insisted that Ortiz is lying, but he pointed out that they are always open to pitting Rousey against Justino as long as the Invicta FC featherweight champion will agree to go down to 135 from 145 pounds.
"It's 100 percent a lie," White said of Ortiz's statement via Yahoo Sports. "First of all, the UFC doesn't even talk to Tito Ortiz, so let's start there. But we haven't offered any fight to Justino. Tito Ortiz is just making this [expletive] up. In no way, shape or form did we offer her a fight against Ronda at Cowboys Stadium. Completely untrue."
When asked about his claims, Ortiz insisted during a Periscope Q&A session that Cyborg really received and accepted an offer to face Rousey. But based on the recent statement from White, the former UFC light heavyweight champion concluded that Rousey is just afraid of Justino.
"What's the deal with Cyborg? The deal is Ronda doesn't want to fight her," Ortiz said. "That's the deal. Plain and simple. Cris will make the weight but Ronda doesn't want to fight. Scared. Ronda is such a great fighter too, it's crazy. You'd think when you are the best in the world that you'd want to fight the best."
White also said during his recent interview that Justino has yet to prove she can make the 135-pound limit. Ortiz fired back and said that Cyborg will prove she can move down to the UFC bantamweight limit once the fight between the two MMA superstars is finalized.
"Cris hasn't made the weight yet for the same reason that I haven't made 205lbs yet," Ortiz added. "I usually don't fight in a weight class until a bout's signed and I'm going to fight."
Rousey, who holds a perfect 12-0 record, is coming off a first-round knockout win against Bethe Correia on Aug. 1 in Rio de Janeiro. Based on recent reports, the 28-year-old champion will likely defend her title against Miesha Tate in December before she considers facing Justino.
