What is especially unique about the reboot series "Heroes Reborn" is that it will be picking up a story that was last seen on-screen with original star Hayden Panettiere's character. According to The Associated Press via The New York Times, the series takes that original story left off and sets the theme for the upcoming miniseries, which will be 13 episodes.

Panettiere's character was last seen on the show exposing her abilities to the world through the view of news cameras. That sets off a new chain of events that had forced the people with extraordinary abilities into hiding.

The original show left the air in 2010 after just four seasons and will be back on the air in fall of 2015.

According to the show creator Tim Kring, the time lapse between the two series will be the real time lapse between them in the reboot, which is five years. It opens up on a scene that takes place five years later and the superhumans are called EVO's, who live in hiding following their exposure by Panettiere's character in season four of the series finale.

At the time of filming the finale, the producers and writers had no idea that it was going off the air.

"The story was really the thing that dictated who would come back, and the show was always designed to be very elastic in its presence," Kring told the AP. "I always thought of it as a show that could repopulate itself. I wanted to make it easy for brand new viewers."

This has also made people wonder what went wrong with the show to cause it to lose so many viewers that the network would have to cancel it. Kring said the amount of story that he had to fill into the season was a little overwhelming. With 23-, 26- and 25-episode seasons, that story had to be stretched out and the thinning of the details may have turned viewers off.

With this season only being a 13-episode miniseries, Kring said, "What you're getting is a beginning, middle and an end which will allow us to do a very aggressive kind of storytelling."

Deadline reports that returning characters for the show include Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis) and Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka).
