Apple has always had a way of intriguing their fans with vague announcements. 2014 has not proven to be any different. In a recent interview Tim Cook, the chief executive officer of Apple stated that Apple will be planning to introduce a new category line this year, with some "great stuff." Apple fans have come to expect innovative products from Apple, however, since the launch of the iPad almost four years ago it seems that their growth in creating new products has significantly stalled.

Apple has long been known for releasing new categories into the Apple line up. The iPod, iPhone and iPad were at one time all new categories for Apple, and it has been a solid revenue structure for them. For instance, when they released the iPad four years ago their revenue reached almost $11.5 billion in the first fiscal quarter of 2014. The iPad has continued to be a large revenue builder for the company but it hasn't shown their fans that their growth will continue.

The announcement made by Cook to introduce a new category line has left many speculating what the newest Apple gadget will be. Among the top contenders are the iWatch, the first line in their new category of wearable Apple gadgets. Others think that Apple is going to introduce an iTV, which will be a take on their current product, Apple TV. While this wouldn't technically be a new product category, as they have the existing Apple TV, they could easily turn it into one without question.

Finally, many people feel that this announcement is leading up to the release of a bigger phone. This may not be a new product category as they have the popular iPhone, but they could introduce a phone that does so much more than their current line and not introduce a new product line, but create an entirely new one.
