The new companion series "Fear the Walking Dead" has taken on the canon of the original show and brought characters to life that were at the "event horizon" of the Walker apocalypse. One of those characters was Madison Clark, who was experiencing her own struggling existence before the apocalypse started, and star Kim Dickens has opened up to Comic Book about the character.

First of all, fans should know that Madison was a struggling single mother of two that had lost her husband six years prior to the events. As most can imagine, raising two children in east LA. can be a hellish struggle in and of itself. But now, adding the Walker zombies to the mix puts a whole new definition of struggle in their lives.

"She's a very strong, single mother. Adaptable and pragmatic," Dickens told Comic Book. "She's not without her flaws. She has a drug addicted teenager and one 17/18 over-achiever teenager. She's falling in love with Travis who has a teenager, as well. It's very modern. She has her obstacles and challenges and obviously the apocalypse is impending upon them."

It is also nothing new for fans to learn that "FTWD" will be taking on a whole new aesthetic for the show and giving it a family focus. But the start of the show on Aug. 23 will be more of a way for people to relate to the characters as individuals and will draw viewers deeper into their struggles. The plot will then transform their lives from anything like regular fans' lives.

"I think it starts at a place that's necessary and relatable to the audience as themselves. Not someone in the apocalypse," Dickens said. "It starts in a very familiar place with the audience with its story and it's a little bit of a slow build but it catches on quickly. It starts to crumble."

She also said that once the apocalypse starts, it moves very fast, and society falls in a hurry, especially in the bigger metropolis cities like Los Angeles.
