'Fifty Shades Darker' Film News Update Online: Production to Begin in January
Production for "Fifty Shades Darker" has been delayed until January 2016.
After a number of controversies over the film, it seems like production will not move ahead until next year. Jamie Dornan is currently filming a World War II drama entitled "Antrophoid," making him unable to commit to the film at the moment.
Additionally, the supposed controversy over his wife being displeased with the first film has also been all over the gossip magazines and sites. However, after numerous offers, it seems Dornan has agreed to go full-frontal for the new film.
According to an insider for Hollywood Life, the actor has agreed to do the full-frontal scene as long as it is brief. The inside said, "They have assured Jamie that it won't be overt but more of a brief tease - and he'll have some creative control over how it's handled." Dornan is being offered $1.5 million for the sequel, a large salary increase from the first film.
However, the delay seems to be coming from producers who are currently seeking a new director for the film. Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the film but decided to leave the franchise after controversy, and after most fans were disappointed by how conservative and glossy the sex scenes were.
From the beginning it was known that Universal and Focus Features would make the movie R-rated, and as a result, the sex scenes would not be so explicit. However, one common complaint was how robotic it all felt compared to the descriptions that E.L. James makes in her books.
There has been no shortlist of directors, but it will be interesting to see if the studio decides to pick another woman director, or if it goes with a male director this time.
Dornan is set to star in the film alongside Dakota Johnson. "Fifty Shades Darker" is slated for release in February 2017.
