Wednesday night's episode of "Extant" will be a bittersweet one for actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, whose character JD will be in a similar situation that his character Denny Duquette on "Grey's Anatomy" was in. But this time, it will be a role reversal for him, according to Entertainment Tonight.

The heartbreaking moment from "Grey's Anatomy" was in the episode that Duquette met his demise on the series. Katherine Heigl was the one crying over his shoulder, begging him to wake up.

Wednesday night on "Extant," he will be reliving the same moment, just in a different role. A deadly virus will leave Halle Berry's character Molly in a coma. It is what puts JD in a bind, both with their dual mission and also with his feelings for her.

At her side, JD pleads with Molly to wake up. This of course mirrors what happened on "Grey's," but it has Morgan on the opposite side of the bed.

"You've turned my world upside down and then you gave it a good shake. But you know what, I wouldn't change a second of it," JD tells Molly in her comatose state.

He has at that point formed more than just an emotional bond with her. He trusts her, and he communicates with her and shares her feelings and her ambitions. Although the romance between them has not reached an epic level, it will soon become clear just how much she means to him.

"People -- they need you ... I need you," his character says to Molly.

The emotional turmoil he is in gives the episode more depth and raises the stakes in the series. The real question after that is not whether or not she ever comes out of the coma, but whether or not she will ever be the same again.
