‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Charlie Hunham May Join ‘The Bastard Executioner’ on FX
The creator of "Sons of Anarchy" and creative genius behind "The Shield," Kurt Sutter, is bringing that same gritty formula back to FX in his new TV show "The Bastard Executioner."
You might even say that he is the master at creating the TV antihero, which is what he did with Charlie Hunham as Jax Teller on "Sons," who will also be joining "Bastard" for a series arc in its freshman run.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a fan poll they ran last Saturday indicated that they wanted Hunham on "Bastard." But that had little influence over Sutter's decision to bring him in for a guest role. But at this stage, he is only in talks with Hunham and "Sons" co-star Tommy Flanagan.
This is due in part to Hunham's loaded schedule for the next three years following his infamous portrayal of Teller on "Sons." But there are some indications that he may be able to squeeze in some time to film some episodes.
"Charlie really wants to come and do, like, a little arc but, he's sort of booked solid for the next three years, so I don't know if that'll happen," Sutter told EW. "But we still have Timothy V. Murphy and I'm sure we'll get some of our Irish dudes that we cast at some point on 'Sons.' It's hard to schlep over American actors. It's been primarily British actors, other than all the people that are related to me that are in the show."
Sutter also joked about a possible character parallel from "Sons," Venus Van Dam. For those who don't know, Van Dam was a transvestite played by Walton Goggins.
"But it's so funny. I was actually thinking, 'I wonder if we could have a medieval Venus Van Dam? What did transgender look like in the 1300s?" Sutter told EW.
According to FX Networks website, "The Bastard Executioner" is set to premiere on the cable channel on Sept. 15.
