Former "Scandal" star Columbus Short was taken into custody during his album release party in Los Angeles Tuesday night.

TMZ reports both sheriffs and bounty hunters were in the house by the time Short arrived at Universal Studios City Walk, pouncing on him as he was about to do a sound check for the event. Short was taken into custody on a bench warrant put out for him after he failed to appear in a domestic violence-related case.

As he was taken away in handcuffs, Short argued with one of the bounty hunters, insisting to them they "freaked him out" and he feared for his life.

According to TMZ, bounty hunters, who get a cut of Short's $500,000 bail, were present because they believed Short was about to flee the county.

It's been a strange odyssey for Short since his days of starring alongside Kerry Washington on "Scandal."

In one instance, he was accused by a woman with whom he was expecting a child of threatening to kill actor Jamie Foxx. In seeking a restraining order against him and claiming he was emotionally abusive, Agostina Laneri alleged Short made the bizarre threat as an example of just how uncontrollable he can be.

"If I choose to kill one of these n*gg*s ... I will do that," she recalled him boasting. "I'm that crazy n*gg* that will be on the news as the n*gg* that murked [murdered] Jamie Foxx. ... Y'all should be very afraid. Very afraid."

Laneri also claimed Short once struck her child and warned her, "Don't forget who I am. I have a knife."

Ultimately, Short was ordered to remain 100 yards clear of her and her son at all times.
