‘Zorro’ Being Rebooted in Post-Apocalyptic Setting [Watch]
The legendary fictional hero "Zorro" will be getting a new reboot set in a post-apocalyptic future.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project finally had some new life breathed into it when a partnership was arranged between Lantica Media and Sobini Films.
With all the craze going around about post-apocalyptic films and TV shows, especially in the young adult market, this new "Zorro" film will capitalize on the momentum, but will do so for good reason.
THR reports the original Zorro character was created in 1919 and was portrayed as a masked bandit by the authorities, but a hero to the working class. His story takes place when the Spanish occupied and controlled California and the masked crusader rose up to take on the tyrants in resistance.
He is best known for fighting the corrupt occupiers and derailing the brutal officials in the territory to help the peasants and farmers that were at their mercy. In most tales, he is a hero of the underdog, a working-class savior that seeks to end the tyranny of the time.
His status within the tales quickly grew to legend and in popular fiction, his tale graced it in many different arenas which included film, TV and radio.
To take the legendary character back to his roots now, he is tasked with fulfilling his duties as a masked crusader after the fall of civilization and the emergence of its survivors.
The project is still in its earliest stages and the producers are still looking to find a director as well as cast. There has been no word yet on a start date for production or a potential release date.
The last films to feature "Zorro" starred Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Anthony Hopkins played an early role in the film as the legendary character, but later passed the torch to Banderas.
